Appointed as Planning Consultants to Leapfrog Day Nurseries, we were instrumental in obtaining planning permission for their premises.

Childminders and planning permission


Child-minding when individuals are looking after one or more unrelated children during the day, typically in the home of the minder will not normally require planning permission.


However, if the character of a property is changed and/or the amenity of an area affected, then it is likely that the LPA will consider the venture a change of use, resulting in the need for planning permission.


Typically if more than 5 or 6 children are to be cared for at any one time then a planning application will usually be required (not including a minders own children who are resident at the property).


The amount of activity normally associated with caring for more than six children, for example parents car trips during the day and need for assistant minders, is generally considered to be of a level such that a change in the character of the property occurs and an effective change of use results.
